Heerenveen (Fries: It Hearrenfean, Stellingwerfs: et Vene) is the capital of the municipality of the same name Heerenveen, located in the Dutch province of Friesland.

The town is located southeast of Sneek and southwest of Drachten, between Joure and Gorredijk. It is the largest core of the municipality and had 29,790 inhabitants in 2021. In 2019, Heerenveen had 92,000 square metres of retail floor space, of which 40,000 in the city centre.

Over time, Heerenveen expanded with ribbon development along the north-south axis. Later, residential areas were built west of the railway line up to Engelenvaart, and in the 21st century expansion began on the east side. As a result, Heerenveen is now about three kilometres wide and shaped like an oval. The town is fused with the neighbouring villages of Oudeschoot, Nieuweschoot, Oranjewoud, Nijehaske, De Knipe and Terband. East of Heerenveen is the wooded Park area of Oranjewoud.
