Venlo, also known as Venloos dialect, is a city located in the northern part of the Dutch province of Limburg. It serves as the urban core of the municipality of the same name and has 68,575 inhabitants (as of 2021, source: CBS). Together with Blerick and Tegelen, Venlo forms an urban area with a total of 86,885 inhabitants (2017 status, source: CBS) within the municipality, where the total population on 31 January 2022 was 102,176.

Blerick and Tegelen were historically separate villages, but during World War II, Blerick was incorporated into the municipality of Venlo. Similarly, Tegelen was merged with the village of Belfeld in 2001 to become part of the municipality of Venlo. The urban area of Venlo includes only the part of the municipality bounded by the A73, the German border, the A67 and the Meuse. Other church villages that are part of the municipality of Venlo are: 't Ven, Hout-Blerick, Boekend, Steyl, Belfeld, Arcen, Velden and Lomm.
